The Pollution Prevention Guidelines (PPGs) were withdrawn on the 14th December 2016. The PPGs were previously maintained by the Environment Agency (EA), but according to the gov.uk website, they have been withdrawn because the PPGs contained a mix of regulatory requirements and good practice advice. The EA does not provide ‘good practice’ guidance.
Each PPG was targeted at a particular type of business or activity and gives good environmental practice to minimise pollution.
Those in England seeking guidance on the areas covered by the PPGs should visit the gov.uk website. Current guidance in the gov.uk site explains how to: report an environmental incident, get permission to discharge to surface or groundwater, manage business and commercial waste, store oil and any oil storage regulations, discharge sewage with no mains drainage, work on or near water and manage water on land.
Currently, in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales the PPGs as still viewed as a source of good practice information.
